Last week I tested the remainder of my students on their letters and sounds---I had 17 pass their letters and sounds test! YEA! I am very happy about this because many of them came in with NO letter knowledge at the beginning of the year. I know that many of them had to work very hard to accomplish this---two of the three that do not know them are new and one has NEVER been in school. The third is just shy, but I know she will get them by the end of this month with more practice.
Speaking of my little one who has never been to school.....we worked on the letter Dd for 3 days last week and she still CAN'T remember it. I tried several methods that worked for Aa, Bb, and Cc but it is not working. She still does not know her colors and shapes too. Before we went off track I spoke with her mom and gave her materials to work with her on these things. She came back with nothing, and no homework (which was a special packet I made for her with pre-k stuff) and I have not seen mom. I asked mom to sit with her and work on her colors, shapes, numbers, and letters (A-E only!) while she was off track. I thought this would at least be a start, right? Well, nothing was done and the little girl even told me her mom "does not help her" and "won't do her homework with her"
What do you do? I can only do my best........
