"How to Writing"
A few weeks ago we started a new writing unit on "How to do/make something." Carlos and I have done a few things in front of the kids and it has been fun. I am very impressed with the students writing and will be posting a few once they are published. The funniest part is when they did their planning on a flow map--the pictures are hilarious! It is kind of funny to hear their versions of "how to make a snowman" or "how to ride a scooter." In fact, my favorite one is about "how to give your dog paw." This means give your dog five apparently. It is tooo cute! I love the creative ideas they have been coming up with. One student in Carlos' class did "how to be a scholar" and it is quite hilarious to. They are all becoming such confident writers and are internalizing many of the mini-lessons. I see it in their work and when we conference. Speaking of conferencing...I wish I had ALL DAY sometimes to do this. It is so important, but takes so much time. I have so many that need a lot of attention to even begin talking and I feel rushed sometimes. School needs to be longer, especially k. Oh well...make do with what you have and DO your best! Right? That is what I tell my kids so I better do the same!
